ALLIANCE FOR DIVERSITY AND PLURALISM in MEDIA (ADPM)
Defending Media Freedoms and Promoting Public Interest Journalism
MANDATE
The ADPM was established as an outcome of a series of national consultations in 2019 analysing the representation of religious minorities in Pakistani media aimed at promoting an enabling environment for diverse and pluralistic perspectives on fundamental rights of all citizens and leading to the establishment of the Alliance for Diversity and Pluralism in Media (ADPM).
The Alliance comprises a group of several publicly well-regarded professionals with backgrounds in religious minority rights advocacy, journalism, media development, human rights activists, women’s rights mobilizers, digital rights activism, and others, who all in a voluntary capacity advise on professionalism-oriented and inclusive initiatives that seek to promote diversity and pluralism in media.
Hosted by the Institute for Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA), has the following mandate:
- To serve as a broad-based, inclusive, consultative and advocacy platform for key stakeholders and experts advocating for greater diversity and pluralism in Pakistani media.
- To support and strengthen the media’s capacities on prioritizing and pursuing public interest journalism that becomes the voice of the voiceless and the often silenced.
- To champion the right of religious minorities to articulate their rights and concerns through greater media freedoms and improved media professionalisms.
- To pilot and facilitate initiatives, activities and programs to support and strengthen the agenda of media diversity and pluralism, especially through greater media content featuring the issues and voices of religious minorities.
- To engage, lobby with and advocate with all key stakeholders related to the media and rights sectors on greater media diversity and pluralism.
- To enlist support of key stakeholders, including religious minorities, governments, human rights commissions, media industry, working journalists, online media and information practitioners, human rights defenders, political parties, legislatures and civil society activists to lend support and strength to the cause of promoting media freedoms, media diversity and pluralism and media professionalism.
- To establish networking, partnerships and collaborations with relevant national and international communities of support, including religious minorities, media and civil society, on the issue of media diversity and pluralism.
- To constitute a mechanism to operationalize ADPM, including establishment of a Steering Committee, to strategize and implement programs, initiatives and actions that support diversity and pluralism in media.

Alliance for Diversity and Pluralism in Media (ADPM) Statement on News Coverage of Pakistan Floods 2022
November 2022: The climate change-induced floods in Pakistan have posed a humanitarian disaster of an unprecedented scale, with over 1,500 dead, nearly 35 million affected, and over $10 billion in estimated damages.
